Talking How to start cooking?

I want to learn to cook. Where should I start? Of course, I need to be able to cook simple meals. Complicated stuff like fish etc. is taboo.

cooking is all about preperation,
get organized, find a simple meal to start with,
read the recipe
go out and buy all the stuff you need
then prepare it all so it is all ready to go
cook it ,throw it together ,and serve
could not be easier
at times like this ,i should have gone fishing 24 hours in a day,24 stubbies in a carton, coincidence.?

I saw a sign that said:-caution small children playing,so i slowed down.then i remembered i am not scared of small children

How I start cooking is by installing and running one of those "whatever@home" programs.

I cook processors, not food.

The Betty Crocker Cook Book is how most people learn to cook. (No kidding.)

I just go ask somebody for the ingredients needed for the recipe and guess how they go together

I picked up cooking from making sandwiches, frying, and baking pre-mixed cake powders
Is this place dead yet?...

cooking is easy - put two eggs in a pan of water bring to boil and boil for three minutes. Take out and eat eggs. you've just cooked (boiled) two eggs - simple!

Take a frying pan and put 2 frozen chicken breasts in. Pour over your favorite salad dressing (Italian, Greek, etc.), put cover on pan and turn burner on little less than medium. Flip chicken after about 10-15 minutes. Chicken is cooked when nothing is oozing out of the top of it.

In pot put 2 cups water, 1 cup rice, 1 teaspoon butter and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Put cover on and turn burner on high until it boils, then to low until all the water is gone (about 10-15 minutes).

In bowl put 3 tablespoons butter and then your favorite frozen veggie (corn is great). Cover with plate and microwave for 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave for another 3-5 minutes.

Great meal and not alot of fuss.

that's it.. do NOT learn from the cookbooks, cooking is neither a chemical experiment nor a magic ritual.
ask someone to teach you the basic skills, they will certainly be pleased that you want to learn from them. then use your imagination to combine the spice with the natural taste of food.

it's not as easy as learning linux and it also hurts a lot. but it's generally worth it!

Fish is about the easiest food to cook, there is nothing complicated about it.
Buying fish of good quality it another matter. In many places it is next to impossible.

Cooking is an inexact science to a degree. It's usually (not always) is passed to one person from another. Find a friend/family member who cooks and ask for their help. Take it as a given that you are going to screw up from time to time, but sometimes screw-ups spawn new dishes. Experiment, you will find your own style.

Baking, on the other hand is a science. Follow those recipes until you get really good or it wont turn out the way you want it to.

Good luck

I would ask a friend to show me how to make a dish that they enjoy cooking. I find it best to have a hands on lesson. Don't worry, if it doesn't turn out well you can throw it out, have a good laugh and order pizza.
