| Eligible for a custom title | Another of my curious urges has taken over. I've noticed a fair amount of vegans, vegetarians, and flexatarians here. Now I'm polling. Which are you? (No debating here, just polling with explanations allowed.) I am a technical lacto-ovo, but with vegan leanings. (No eggs as a food or milk. Eggs allowed in cooking and milk in products in small ammounts.) Last edited by Pi-Rat : 05-14-2007 at 11:10 PM. Reason: forgot to specify mine and apologize for the typo in the poll |

| I don't intentionally eat anything that comes from an organism that: flies, walks, has a brain remotely resembling humans, breaths (via lung-like apparatus) or has eyes (not the kind of eyes like potatoes have, but the actual visual organs). Which essentially means I eat vegetables and fruit. I'm OK with processed fruits and veggies (as long as they weren't processed using anything in the list above). I eat a lot of soy and wheat based products. Some of the food that you'd typically find me eating: Veggie sushi, fried tofu, pasta, veggie burgers, Kimchi (awesome spicy Korean food), seitan dishes (makes GREAT meat replacer), TVP dishes (another good meat replacer), and of course as much fresh fruits and veggies as I can. I cook a lot (obviously it's difficult to eat-out with this kind of diet). |

| Commentator | Bold added by me... Don't do it to yourself! Carbohydrate is our most important energy source. Without it, there's no point having protein, as you'll not have the energy to stimulate its use.If you're trying to lose weight (usual reason for <carbs) it would be an idea to read up on the scientific literature regarding weight loss dieting. A nice place to get a general idea of dietary composition is from a large study conducted last year. Arch Intern Med -- Abstract: Comparison of 4 Diets of Varying Glycemic Load on Weight Loss and Cardiovascular Risk Reduction... Abstract only I'm afraid, can't find free full text yet. I Myself, have a fairly varied diet. The only things I leave out are eggs (fine in cooking) for taste and most seafood for the same reason. I try to make sure I eat tuna a fair bit to make up for the lack of some essential nutrients, as tuna is the only fish I generally like. Definitely a meat lover, but it is usually part of a broader meal containing veggies, pasta, rice etc. |

| I'm decidedly omnivorous, though I try to eat a pretty well balanced diet. Oh, and I don't like organ meats like liver or kidney, all I can think of while eating them is, "This is a used filter, what if it retained all the impurities it filtered out?" Eww. |

| I eat mainly fish, and some chicken; don't eat much red meat. I also don't see why we should eat kidneys and liver, that are used to filter toxins out of the body - surely it's silly to eat it. I try to have a good, balanced diet, and also listen to cravings as it's often an indication of a deficit of something in the diet. In principle, I'd prefer to be a "pescaterian" (although I had to Google its meaning), and use free-range and organic whereever practical. I admire people who use every bit of an animal, and let nothing go to waste, but I admit to being slightly hypocritical for not following that kind of philosophy myself - although I sometimes do have haggis, sausages and burgers ;-P |

Any time I hear the term " ____ fry" it's usually in reference to testes. I'm still picturing your breakfast with a bit of a viagra side-effect. I'm scarred for life. *blink blink* | |

| Am I the only one who's never heard the terms Pescaterian, Flexaterian, or Meat Reducer before? Sorry...I guess I'm just not hip to the latest things I suppose I'm sometimes a meat reducer, it just depends what I can be bothered to defrost I do prefer to get wholemeal, organic, free range, butcher, etc. foods rather than prepackaged anything. I'm growing stuff in a (container) garden for the first time in years, so I can have my own salads I know are organic, etc. |

| That's awesome, home grown veggies rock! I live in an apartment, so it's hard for me to, or I would probably grow most of what I eat. Maybe it's a mix of satisfaction and lack of mass production (as in, anything mass produced tends to taste more bland) but home grown veggies are always twice as good. |

| I'll try just about anything once, it helps to be open when you travel the world and can't read the menu. I've had some things that I would never have even attempted to try before, some of them quite good though. There was this time when I ordered what I thought was a steak in Chile only to find out it didn't come from a cow.... |
