| Well, yeah, but only some many different things can happen to teeeangers.... I dont see them similarites between the ones you picked really.... Spike and Manny both go pregnante? other than that they are nothing alike... I guess Joey and Craig are both in a band... but I mean, these things happen in every high school... It's hard to come up with "orgininal" teenage experinces. |

1)As I mentioned in another thread, Emma's two parter on bulimia ... Degrassi J.H. covered it first with Kathleen Mead! The difference is that they actually showed Kathleen inducing the bulimia vs. Emma doing it behind closed doors and coming out wiping her mouth with a napkin! Also, in the DJH, they also show Kathleen with laxatives as another way of losing weight hardcore style! 2)Manny's pregnancy and subsequent abortion ... it's better equated to Erica Farrell on Degrassi High! As a summer camp counsellor Erica had "relations" with a guy counsellor ... but she got pregnant ... and contrary to what her twin sister and her church thought about abortion being wrong, she still went through with it! 3)Joey and Craig correlation ... the love triangle! If you recall in the "Holidays" two parter, after Craig loses both Ashley and Manny, Joey consoles Craig by talking about his two timing with Caitlin & "some girl named Tessa Campanelli" and how they both found out! This occured in the movie "School's Out"! 4)Emma & Caitlin ... Much like Old School Caitlin, Emma (the early season version) was the "social cause" girl, fighting for causes such as boycotting the caf, etc.! Similarily, Caitlin was a cause girl who fought for such causes as keeping Spike @ Degrassi despite Degrassi ordering her to leave ... or when she was soliciting signatures for a petition (or as Caitlin called it, "a letter of protest") to keep Ms. Avery @ Degrassi High! Those are the only comparisons that come to mind ...

Yes, they are similar, but things like that happened in my school too, but weren't copying anyone. :P... I know all those episodes, I'm just saying there ins't much more that they can do. In high school there is always pregnacies, eating disorders, love traingles and everything...... I just dont think they could have made up new things... what else happenes in high schoool? I think they were just trying to show how and new generation deals with it. I forgot tessa got pregnante.... Joey never even knew though.. So actualy that comparison is really good, because both girls got an abortion...

5)Terri + Rick & Kathleen + Scott ... All of you know about Terri's physical abuse at the hands of Rick during their relationship, and how she put up with it because he was her first (and in her opinion the only) boyfriend of her life! Similarily, Kathleen never had a boyfriend until she met Scott @ Degrassi High ... who ended physically abusing her as well! In both cases, things came to a head when the boyfriend abused them and seriously injures them, and at least one altercation involved an assault in an alleyway in front of a garage door! 6)Rick & Claude ... For one reason or another, both of these guys become ostracized by the vast majority of Degrassi ... and both end up killing themselves though use of a gun ... which leaves the entire school completely distraught! I'm sure there are more ... B)

| Let's not forget when Lucy had the girls over before the school dance, and they all started drinking. Good old Stephanie Kaye, the school president(!) got so drunk she threw up in the bathroom. The same thing happened to Terri at the first school dance in the first season. |

| There are a lot of similarities b/w the Old School episodes and the Next Gen. episodes. There really are only so many themes to tell. Almost every story has been told, but it's how they tell it and the characters that are involved that get us hooked. |

| I think that they show alot more on the old degrassi thatn they do the new one and it dont make any sence why they would show spike becoming oregnant and not mammy, but they did let liberty go throught her whole tpregnancy on there so maybe they are becoming more open than before. |

I don't think it's a matter of people being more open or anything. Teenage pregnancy and abortion are two different things, both of which affect teenagers. They're two different issues, but are both important to address.
