Default What year did it start?

When was the first degrassi episode ever made?
Was it something like 1984, or is that wrong?

If you go by that, that Degrassi started in the late 70's with Kids of Degrassi Street.

I like how they kept some of the old characters on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Depending on how you look at it, both answers of "the 70s'" & "1987" are correct.

The Kids of Degrassi Street's first episode was produced in 1979! TKoDS was a series which incorporated the "Degrassi" name and was made by the same producers (Linda Schuyler, et al)! It was about young kids who lived on on that said Street, and dealt with the trials and tribulations of growing up. Though made by the same producers, the characters and storyline universe are totally different!

Degrassi Junior High, which started airing in 1987, is the first show that incorporates the storyline universe that is used in Degrassi: TNG with characters like Joey, Spike, Caitlin, & Archie "Snake" Simpson!

I hope that explanation didn't go over all your heads!

lol, I have a feeling Degrassi will never die. I could soooo picture like Degrassi the Next Next Generation when like we all have kids, and characters we remember like Emma, and Paige, and Manny, will all have kids and they'll go to Degrassi community school. I have to admit if I was in my like late 20's or 30 or whatever I would soooo watch that, seeing all my favorite characters back on screen.

yeah it would be nice, if they make a new degrassi some years from now, if they could pick up on the lives of some of the characters.. like they've done with Spike, Snake, Joey, Caitlin....
