| For me the ball bounces better on the hard floor than the carpet, meaning the floor is clean and easy to see. The carpet...ya left overs and not a good bounce. Windows XP... Most unecessary files can be eliminated by this path.. my computer/control panel/ Network and Internet connections/Internet Options/ on the tab Internet Options you have all your choices right there and usually it will even give you a choice once you hit a button to delete all if you wish...<< this is mundane...by now most have a program that does it at a clk of a button, however manual is ok...Now this will not however include Prefetch and Event Veiwer, also on the above path make sure auto complete did its work as well. Now for the next two... My computer/control panel/Performance and Maintenance/Administrative tools/ Event Viewer/ select applications..on tab button, select action, clear all log events,..do you want to save..no..repeat with securety and system. Prefetch..now you may have to enable hidden files << to do this... my computer/control panel/appearances and themes/folder options/ on the Folder options general tab..select view..scroll down to Hidden files and folders..select show hidden files and folders...Now prefetch will be in plain view by this path...My computer/ on the tab, choose view..scroll down to Explorer bar..folders, C-disk < open this...choose windows..scroll down to Prefetch..open VWA LAAAA < spelled wrong, but anyway here you can select all and delete, now if if for some reason it sais cannot delete the index file, just start over and select all the files except that one, then delete. Now go to c-net..download free Agent Ransack then type in txt..and rid your system tons of files not even needed, pay close attention to what you delete though, you can put any extension in Ransack you want and it will pull it up...there are options with Ransack to find what you want as well. I was very suprised to see so many double files and loose ends that would drag XP on me.. well truth is...if you have a program called disk investigator, you can delete most of what you want..even so all the above and disk investigator will still pull it out of the systems gut..found that out too. Most of Microsoft passage to clean up your system is an illusion, but it does help some...make sure to defrag afterwards or your defeating your purpose anyway. I am using Ubuntu 710 on another pc, all who use it say you can eliminate any tracks, all Ie and so forth by the clk of a button in Firefox, hard to beleive but ya seems to work, I am still working on being root to find this out... Good luck Sherri |
