I think Ubuntu is quickly becoming the best OS out there. I have been so impressed by it.

I like it, but i'm not all that happy yet.

I've been having a lot of trouble with gnome when i'm loggin' in. A quick calculation tells me, that about 25% of the logins results in a "faliure to load gnome properly" message. Really a drag.

Other than that, i'm ok with it. Wifi works fine again and apt-get is still a dream to work with.
..........And on the first night, god made coffee!

Perhaps you would do well to check out Rich Barna's site. You'll get quality help there. Gnome has been outstanding for me.

I would have to add, i had one time it would not start (black screen) but it mysteriously started again after i messed in recovery mode.
But i think was mistaken in that it did not work, you see, for some reason my screen goes black while loading. (Which is annoying; no feedback.)

Also while installing Ubuntu at my father. (Prospect convert ) The option dual install did not appear. Partitioning manually hit a small snag too, but it seemed that the partition table of this computer was wrong for some reason before i started Ubuntu. :s

I also had difficulties with my older computer, but it seems that it's hardware was just failing. (Only liveCDs dont crash, i used Damn Small Linux for a while there.)

Perhaps you burned your cd/dvd too fast. I burn them no faster than 4x.

Why do you think that could have been the problem? Sounds very unlikely that a miswrite would cause that behavior.(If it was a miswrite on binaries it would likely just crash, no?) When installing with my father, i checked the CD for faults.
Anyway a black screen during startup for 3-5secs is not a problem at all.
