Default Linux ATI

Anyone have an ATI card that you're running Linux on? I just upgraded to fglrx 8.41 on my testing system. It's a LOT faster. I haven't benchmarked it or anything, just played a couple of games. But it is a very noticeable improvement. Mobility Radeon X1300.

I don't have any ati, but I heard much about the big performance boost with these recent drivers, they're almost on par with nvidia.

But still no aiglx support....

Coming next month..... yippee! I'm excited. I have never been able to get 3D support to work with my card.

And had you heard that ATI released part of the code? I don't understand the details, but they released enough for an open source driver project to get underway. Those who know more than I do seem to be happy about the move. Looks like ATI is going to start helping out their *nix user base.

I had an ATI Radeon 9700. It was the worst Linux experience Ever. When I finally upgraded my computer last year I made certain to get an nVidia card

No doubt. Apparently, nVidia has been way ahead of ATI for a while. I didn't know better when I got the computer. My budget doesn't allow for random computer upgrades just cause I want prettier graphics, so I've just lived with it. If these new drivers live up to the hype then I'll be very happy. And so far, I'm pretty pleased with 8.41.
