Thumbs down logitech ?

can anyone explain why logitech decided to have no drivers available for linux (at least non I can find.

My guess would be that they think their making enough money from window users and don't want our cash.

Myself from now on I will only buy products that support linux lrt me know what you think

I have two logitech devices that work perfectly in Linux. In my experience the software that comes with mice and keyboards is always completely superfluous and unnecessary anyway.

their webcam quickcam ultra vision is not supported and every driver I have tried for mint. ubuntu and debian don't work you would think that the cost of one $165.cad one would think it would be supported.

I think its time to boycott logitech at least thats what I'm going to do

I have the logitech mv revolution which I payed £100 and now I can't use it in linux. The drivers work really good in windows and I love how the scroll can be adjusted differently for every programme. Or how the extra wheel can be used for application changer. Of course nothing of that works in ubuntu...

I have an MX1000 laser mouse, its a bit of a pig to setup in linux, and doesn't work fully (but its a damned fine mouse so I put up with it). Proper support of it would be pretty sweet but Logitech like many others just don't see it as a market I guess.

Yes, but what other company producing webcams makes Linux drivers anyway? Is there one?
Because it seems to me that all the webcam drivers available so far have been made by volunteers and not by the companies...

I can't boycott all webcam producers if I want a webcam. I'll just choose one for which drivers have already been made (and there are some working Logitech webcams).

Anybody have any clue if the Logitech Mac desktop suite (mouse and keyboard) will work under XP or Linux? Since I don't use it anymore, I'd like to give another computer an upgrade.

My G5 mouse works fine...yes, you have to write a config file for it and adjust xorg.conf, but there are howtos out there.

Some in the community are working on Logitech mouse drivers, but not every mouse supports it (my G5, for example).

Keep asking Logitech to get off their lazy asses or else hope for a community solution. *shrug*

I'll give that a try and see how it goes. Thanks.

I don't know about Logitech mouses, but I borrowed a Logitech webcam from my friend once. I fiddled with it to make it work more than I fiddled with fglrx to make it work with an ATI Radeon 9200 SE, and it never worked. That's really bad, because most webcams where I live are Logitech, and I don't even know what webcams work well with linux

Look at the links in this page to know what webcams work or not:
KDE Wiki : Kopete Webcam Support

Some Logitech Webcams should work.

Personally, the only Webcam I ever used successfully under GNU/Linux so far was a Phillips ToUcam Pro II.
But it was a friend of mine who installed the driver for it.

Thanks a lot for the link!

I agree though, webcam support is very lacking on Linux

My Logitech Orbital webcam works like a champ in 7.04 the logitech wireless keyboard works fine too. I just had to set the keyboard shortcuts for the volume and webbrowser up under System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts to the right keys. My girlfriends using one of those gaming zboard keyboards and her also was easy.
