Default Wine-Doors

I have just come across a cool program called Wine-Doors

Wine doors

It's a front end and package manager for Windows apps on Linux. As I type this Steam is installed on ununbtu and it's downloading Half Life!?!

Steam started just like it dose on Windows, I logged on using my normal Steam ID. All of my games are there ready to install

It looks cool. Are you going to try World of Warcraft? If I can get that working then I am set.

OK Half Life:2 runs and very well too...

It looks very good as always, no 3D anomalies, level load takes a little longer than I'm used to but too bad. I did notice some frame rate stutter when in the very large environments. I will have a go at dropping the settings some to see if I can get it to run more smoothly.

I will use the test in Counter Strike Source to fine tune it. I know that under Windows I can max out the settings at 1280x1024 and still get 50 to 60 fps. This is the same hardware but the drivers are not the same and the environment is certainly not the same!?!

I have know that it's possible to run Windows games on a Linux box but getting it to work in the past has been akin to black magic. I once tried to run Battlefield:2 it was a total disaster. All of the settings at their lowest and still only 12fps. Plus you couldn't play online because the patches were not included and PunkBuster would kick you!

This is a totally different experience to all of my others when trying to get Win-Games to run under Linux. So a big thumbs up to the guys over at WineDoors for this one...

Sounds interesting, but those games have been running smoothly through wine for a long time, if I'm not wrong..(?)

This is just a tool that makes installing/removing of windows apps a lot easier as I can see it, which is good! Anyone know if it "auto-tweaks" the settings for each game/application? I know that in cedega, there's a database containing optimized settings for common games.

Your right about this not doing anything new. Not really it just makes it easier. Noob friendly way of installing Windows apps much the same way you install in Linux by choosing from a list. But it dose work, just for the heck of it I installed something I don't use in Windows... IE6 just because I can

There are many users that want to use IE under linux, as some webapps (I know about a couple of enterprise-systems that do..) require IE..

And this is indeed a great app!

I have installed Wine-Doors in Ubuntu, but for the life of me i cannot figure out how i run installed windows apps! I open the installer with Wine-Doors and install the program, but i ithen can't find it. It's probably really simple, that's probably why i can't find it.
