Default Cellular Aircard?

Just loaded Feisty, my first Linux OS attempt and am already having trouble with wireless access. I'm thinking about getting wireless broadband service. This is a laptop by the way. Does anyone have any experience with aircards and Ubuntu? I mostly have a choice of Verison or At&t here and they both use Sierra Express cards although diffrent models. I haven't seen any discussion on this particular method of going wireless yet. Thanks in advance.
