The new kernel will have better laptop/battery support, if you have a laptop that is.

Gnome 2.20 with some nice new features like putting the theming into one place.

Compiz-fusion by deafult.

More good packages in the repo's, like the iceape suite among others.

Easier wifi, by putting the ndiswrapper stuff in the restricted driver manager.

Faster.

At least some of the new good things coming to your computer the 18th of october. Right....

Yeah, it's the fancy 3d desktop. By october it's probably a lot more stable too. It's a little slow and buggy as for now.

But who can blame them when they are merging beryl and compiz. It's a big job.

The drivers are getting better after amd bought ati, but there's sadly not aiglx support. So it's a pain in the a** to get it up and running.

It looks like they devoted most of their resources to the vista drivers for now. It would have be better for them to open up the drivers, and they would have beaten nvidia in a short time. And more computer users with ati cards would consider switching to linux. And nvidia would likely open their drivers too, so they would not loose a lot of costumers.

When I switched over to Linux earlier this year, I was very tempted to give beryl a try, but decided I am not ready to beta test Linux software yet. It'll be nice to have it as part of the distro.

Desktop effects are pretty sweet. I can get them running with the open source ati driver, but not fglrx, and I need fglrx for tv-out. I suppose I could make it work eventually with xgl, but then I think I'd have wacom issues. Decisions, decisions...
