Default Microsoft Hires Linux Foundation Engineering Manager

Interesting..

Quote:
Microsoft has hired a leading Linux engineering manager out of the den of one of its fiercest opponents, the San Francisco-based Linux Foundation.
Development veteran Tom Hanrahan, former director of engineering for the Open Source Development Labs and current director of engineering for the Linux Foundation, will be the new head of Microsoft's interoperability lab, one of the offspring of its deal with Novell last November.

The Linux Foundation is the group that was formed from the merger of the Open Source Development Labs and the Free Standards Group. The Linux Foundation has warned Microsoft publicly against attempting to enforce its patents against Linux users, a response to Microsoft's warnings on the heels of its Novell deal that it believes Linux violates some of its patents.

Hanrahan was previously senior program manager of IBM's Linux Technology Center in Beaverton, Ore., then joined the Open Source Development Labs in Beaverton at the end of September 2004.

This is clearly a plan to dismantle open source and Linux.

Not necessarily. Although that can seem frightening.
I think Microsoft's starting to realize that the real money is in the software, now. They can't convert Linux users.
So, if you can't beat them, join them.
That's how I think it is.

Microsoft is pathetic. They should quit trying to put everyone else down for their own monopoly and get into making good software. They spend too much time trying to destroy all other marketeers, and not enough time developing what they are trying to monopolize.

I used to be a BIG Windows fanatic before I started messing iwth Linux. Now when I look at things, it just kind fo ticks me off. The accessibility software (screen magnifier, etc) for Windows (as I believe the company that makes it has a deal with M$ an d no other company), sells the product for nearly $600. If you install it on Windows but three times (no joke), your license si suspended.

Then I came to Linux and found a magnifier fo equal quality that did nto come with a price tag...

Anyway...I have no respect for Microsoft anymore...excuse my rudeness, but they just need to butt-out...

Patent infringement? 235 patents? And they don't seem to be saying "what" they are...(unless I'm behind in things)...Just irritates me...but I am glad to be using Linux.

Maybe they're hiring him so that he tests the level of FUD MS spreads?

Because apparently hiring (and keeping) developers is rather expensive.

I doubt there are any similar to Powerpoint stuff available on Linux. There are other presentation software available, but they're not designed in the same way as Powerpoint.
