USB auto mounting is borked in 7.04, for me.

I can also understand your frustration, not so much that i have had the issues but i have my aunt that i am converting over to Ubuntu and we are both trying to work thought the issues that shes having so we both know how to fix the issues and so it will be easier when i try to help customers that also try it out. I myself had no issues installing its when i am trying to mess with the down and dirty stuff, messing with Conky (cringes), trying to get games working with Wine (crines even harder). All of these things that i am doing on this computer is just testing out the water until i get my full computer for school which will be a duel boot with Vista and Ubuntu. I am also turning out to be a distro junkie (someones thats constantly trying out new distros).

How well Linux works for you depends on how you think of it. If you think of it as a Windows replacement, it will never work well enough for you.

It is true that Linux isn't for everyone. However I must say that my experience has been almost the exact opposite. I've had to set up/configure very little. Everything worked pretty much out of the box. Except my laptop hates anything newer than 6.06 Dapper.

Windows isn't a very good ubuntu replacement ;-)

I don't see why people have issues with ubuntu. I converted when I was 13 and only ever rebooted for soldat and specialised graphics work.

Now soldat works flawlessly, and i'm getting used to The GIMP

barney@spadge:~$ uptime
18:34:17 up 32 days, 20:16, 6 users, load average: 2.31, 2.07, 2.00

Its super-fun customising ubuntu and writing all kinds of apps.

Actually, that is what I meant in my post, and IMO I can't see anything that would suggest I said otherwise :/

How I hate broadcom corp And the ati drivers

I don't have a laptop. But my girlfriend has a hp with broadcom wireless. Had a lot of trouble with the wireless and some problems with the microphone. Until feisty came along and everything just worked.

I'm really happy that I don't have a laptop with hardware from stupid manufactures that fefuses to help make drivers. Since I have a workstation I just replaced the crappy ati 200 xpress with a nvidia card. The ati card is the only hardware problem I ever had with linux.

It was so nice to just throw away all the stupid driver cd's Now I'm a windows noob instead I get really frustrated when in windows. No multiple desktops, almost none of the great apps Gnu gave me for free and allowed me to whatever I want to do with them.

Maybe you will have the same experience with the laptop when gutsy arrives

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X600, and have never had any video card problems. It must be one of the models that just works.

My broadcom wireless thing never works, though.

Go try running 3D games that ran well with Windows in Linux, you will probably notice half the performance.. :/

Or try running anything 3D while you have Compiz/Beryl running.

Now observe how ATI 'just works' in Linux
