| (I posted this on Ubuntu Forums, but I'd also like a wider response...) I've been a satisfied user of an Intel D865-GLC main board for the past 4 years or so...but now I'm getting the urge to upgrade (Core 2 Duo, faster memory & bus speeds, that sort of thing). I've tried to find a forum, discussion, something at Intel's site that would provide some sort of guidance, to no avail. Now I turn to the community for help... First, if you know of an Intel site I missed, please tell me. Secondly, if you have specific recommendations for an Intel main board, based on the 965/975 chipsets, please share your thoughts. Finally, if there's a non-Intel recommendation (a la ASUS), please let me know. (And, yes, I would buy one of the Dell offerings, but I've got a perfectly good case, PS, HDDs, etc. that I'd like to make use of. I AM looking at Dell for a replacement for my aging Sony VAIO PCG-GRZ610 laptop....) |

| So you're going to upgrade your Motherboard and Processor? Don't know a lot about that, but I'd suggest getting something with the GMA X3000 Graphic chipset. Best video chip Intel made in a while(with open drivers!) |

| Commentator | I wouldn't buy a whole new Dell system if you've got a perfectly good working case, hard drives, etc. If you want to upgrade everything else you're looking at a new mobo, CPU, and RAM. What's your budget and what kind of things do you use your computer for? |

My use case is fairly typical - surf the Web, email, IM (work-related), noting fancy. I do need dual-boot as my job involves some fairly heavy lifting with Microsoft SQL Server and a web-based app that (unfortunately) makes heavy use of ActiveX and the .Net framework. Mark | |

| I see the Fnords. | NewEgg.com and TigerDirect.com do motherboard bundles, in the U.S. I've bought from both, and I'd recommend both. |

For just an instant, have a glimpse, a vision, of life through my eyes. It is a staggeringly joyous perspective, a view of how each person's choices can make their own life better. It is a vision of the possible, of how things can and should be.
