Thinking back, my first online experience would of been in 1997, not sure on the modem speed, might of been early 56k, and that was at school. Don't really remember what I looked at, it was a glorious day though. Wasn't until a few years later that we actually got internet at home, and then we had 56k dial up for years and years until I finally convinced my parents to get dsl.

probably 1996-1997,my Dad(R.I.P) was reading the news online, and I asked him, what's this Dad? He did some long explaining about this new world. We had a normal dial-up connection, downloaded at 3-4 kb/s. An hour costs us about $1. I remember getting scolded for sitting more than an hour a day...

1986 was my first experience with fidonet had my own BBS in 1990. one of the first on the web in the community I lived in seems like a long time ago must be getting old

I think mine was a little different from most.
I was made redundant in 2000. With my dosh I bought a computer and really had not a clue. When I finally started to get on the net (I had been widowed for 7 years) I started looking for some pen friends to get back up in to life again. I had a reply from a Mexican lady and to cut a long story short we are now married for 6 years and I now live a zillion miles from the UK, still cannot speak Spanish but get by. Quite some introduction to the computer!!!
