| BeOS was a nice OS back in its time. Anyone here with experience of using it? I tried it back in 2002... using the 'personal edition'. What a nutloader of a time. It was fun, but the hardware support was very bad and I had to get a new soundcard for sound. The OS itself was very nice but there were few applications for stuff I wanted to do, and I guess it just didn't work out for me. If only BeOS was a commercial success. I wonder what it would be like today. |

| I tried the PC version of BeOS (in its preliminary open source development form) a couple of years ago. Most of the system was quite stable and efficient, although the media player crashed quite often and played audio and video at twice normal speed (and sometimes even pitch!) I believe I'd love to give Haiku a try once it's stable enough for a pre-release beta. ![]() |

| Oh, I loved BeOS - it just about died off when I discovered it, which was a little annoying. I have to say that I can't wait for Haiku to mature! Zeta is a bit expensive for what it is, a slightly modernised rebuild of BeOS. I think they should work with the Haiku to produce an open source version and be a company that uses the OS business model like Canonical. |

| Less than 3 miles from the sea | It was a real shame that it didn't take off, I loved the feel of it. Or did I just loved using something else? not sure. With Linux grabbing all of the attention for the hobbyist I'm not sure if it will ever have a real future. |
