You're kind of comparing apples with oranges there.

All dual core CPU's on the market today are 64bit, I think you want to know the difference between 32bit and 64bit?

I'm not quite sure on the just how 64bit improves performance, but the numbers 32 and 64 refer to the word length that the cpu can address. At a guess, a 64bit CPU can address twice the data in a single cycle, which makes more efficient use of clock cycles, but I could be wrong.

In a nutshell, dual core is just two CPU's on the same chip. This means you can get true multiprocessing (two processes can run at the same time, rather than a single core alternating between two processes very quickly to give the illusion of multiprocessing). Obviously each core will be running multiple processes (my machine is running 72 processes atm), but having two cores greatly helps.

Hope that helped answer your question

64 bit supports hyperthreading. Basically a 2 way communication process which allows multiple threads of program execution. 32 bit is 1 processor, a 64 bit reads like 2 processors.

Uhm the above answers are...not exactly right.

Dual core means the processor has two processing cores. This basicly means there are 2 processors.

64bit means that the instructions are 64bits wide instead of 32.

64bit cpus ARE NOT shown as 2 cpus (unless it is dual core 64bit). There is almost no noticable difference between 32bit and 64bit cpus, basicly 64bit cpus encode video and other things like that more efficiently. The average desktop user will never notice a difference.

So to put it simple:

Dual core = 2 cores on one chip...this means twice the processing power.

64bit = not 2 cpus.

(also on a side note, not all dual core processors on the market are 64bit, see the early pentium Ds for example or the intel core duo both of which can still be bought and are also still found in new PCs.)

would 64 bit be faster for rendering?
