| A few days ago I came into possession of a windows xp pro 64 disk. And I want to install it for games only. I will not allow internet connection at all, nor do i want updates. I just want it for a few games Ive been trying to install on linux but cant. Anywho i know drivers and certain programs are hard to install on feisty 64, is this the case with win 64? . I just need the nvidia driver to install on the win64 and prolly the mobo drivers. Will there be any issues? Does anyone know? Should i hide in my attic for asking this question here ? lol ![]() |

| I didn't try any 64-bit OS before, but I can tell you there is no Flash on Windows XP 64-bit.(and there is probably some other software that you can't use too) And I doubt the games will work as well as they do on 32-bit(but I'm not sure about that though) Extrene Coder |

| Driver support isn't the best on 64bit Windows, and you're not likely to notice any increase in performance in your games, as they're still 32 bit. Installing stuff (like drivers, etc) is just the same as any other version of windows, so that's the easy part, finding them is the hard part. |

| Less than 3 miles from the sea | I know a few guys in the gaming community that use Win64 as an alternative install of Windows. They run it as a duel boot along side Win32. Here are some of the reasons... 32bit Windows can't address more than 3.5 Gb of RAM, so if you have 4Gb plus you need to be running a 64bit OS. There is no point loading your rig up with 8Gb if Windows can't see most of it. ![]() Windows is more likely to behave it's self if you don't install to many programs. So if you want a stable system for gaming then you don't want to be surfing the web, watching movies or any of the other stuff we all use our computers for. Some programs show a performance improvement running under 64bit. Even the ones that haven't been written for 64Bit, this has more to do with windows running a little better. Some of these improvements are big, some are small. Thing is if you tell these guys that you can get a few extra "frames per second" they would sell their grandmothers to get it ![]() Not that I suffer from this at all me, not me... never, sell my granny? for a few extra fps? ![]() PS. These are also good enough reasons for other memory intensive applications, like video editing, DVD work and such... Last edited by pENdr4gON : 05-22-2007 at 04:45 PM. |

| Less than 3 miles from the sea | LOL It's a little like hot rodding, you tweak, you fiddle. just to get the max performance out of your box. From the games point of view getting fragged by the other guy is bad enough. To think it was your own hardware that has contributed to your humiliation, well it doesn't bear thinking about. Death by lag ![]() Some guys just throw money at the problem, there are a few in the clan that have spent £3000 plus on their gaming rigs. Me I have to work to a budget, I try to work smart. My rig is in a continuous state of evolution, I guess I must spend £500 or so a year on hardware to keep the speed up. The last purchase was a pair of 250Gb SATA II drives stripping. Map loads are oh so fast No longer do the guys with the fast machines cap flags before my PC has loaded the map... It's me half way to the objective before the others have finished loading. The next one will cost some, I need a faster CPU, that means MoBo and RAM Grrrrrr....The up side is I have enough spare parts to build PC's at will Need a new Lin-Box no problem let me look in my parts box... I'll russell you up one in a couple of hours.Heck I could have a really expensive hobby like golf!!! ![]() |
