Hmm, education... got it, but more money always comes in handy.

I'm a cabinet/furniture maker, or at least thats what i think it's called in english. The danish name for it is "møbelsnedker". The profession is very old and in denmark there's almost none left, cause now a days most is made by machines.

I sometimes take pictures if i think a project is extraordinary or in any other way exceptional. I've got quite a few projects behind me, as i have been in this profession for about fifteen years now, but i must admit i like it.

Sorry, i cant write a post like this without posting an image

Career - in transition, gotta decide what I want to be when I grow up.

Education - I'll never stop

Money - content

I'm looking forward to seeing the picture when I'm on a machine that lets me view it. There are some great Danish pipe carvers too - you guys got a thing for working with wood. I'm glad you're keeping the tradition alive.

Career ... the word suggests working in one type of job for many years or your whole life. I never did do that. For the past years I have been working at home with web hosting, web design, programming, etc - anything in that vein.

Education ... left school early, finally went back in my thirties and got University education and more.

Money ... these days always a battle to make ends meet (a product of working for oneself in a highly competitive field, plus that damn Aussie Dollar that just keeps on rising in value, and most if not all of my income comes from the USA), but I get by - and the payoff is being able to work from home.

Here in Australia at least, the term is just cabinetmaker I think ... as you say, a dying breed due to machinery. More general woodworkers are called carpenters, or more colloquially, 'chippies'.

Hey Pkslot
Does this make a financial bite for you as well? this is very handsome carpentry..I take it the top is somewhat water resistance?,,We see this look here but its that formica top,..furniture that comes here from Denmark is not cheap..and if its hand hand made it has even more value.

it looks great..

Thank

It's made in beech, and the sink is porcelain. It's fully waterproof, as it's treated first with a transparent black paint (not paint, but i don't know the english term. It sinks into the wood, not covering the structures) and further more it is coated with three layers of linseed oil, and polished.

It's handmade, through and through, by me

Sorry, but i used to have a little website with some pictures of recent projects, but i deleted it.

Hi Pkslot!

Well it is indeed handsome work..you know what is intriguing is that the past repeats itself.. Nowadays the new construction homes have an un-usual style type of sinks if you will. They are incredible..like for instance..a huge leaf glass type sink only..no base or countertops..just a glass sink with a faucet like unit attached on the over head..quite unique. I wonder though..its cool looking but no-where to lay your things on..and not practical..just something different..

Its always great to have a carpenter around..house beautiful comes to mind..

Hehe, well i have been known to do a bit of carpentering around the house. Right now the roof on our house is a straw roof. Wednesday we had quite a storm here and some of the straws blew off, so i'm going to find out how to fix it. Having a professional fixing it will cost me around 250$ per square meter, and thats not the kind of money i have. So the alternative is to buy some straw myself and get to work

Yeah well, those sinks maybe look cool, but where's the soap 'n' other stuff going to be. Lots of danish designers experiment with the shapes and materials when it comes to sinks, but i must admit that the outcome rarely is worth any good money.

Hi pkslot.

Ya on those pop sinks..there just not practical at all..you still need a dispenser for soap and just the over all idea you can sit something on the darn thing..geezzzzzz..They are nice to look at, but thats all..

The straw roof thing is not decoration, its a very old technique of making a roof, called 'thatching'. Check the link from pkslot's post:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thatching

It does look really nice and is apparently quite waterproof (not sure I'd recommend it in Hurricane area though )

Career: working in economics, good job. although being one of the 'younger' employees in my section I was hired to be one of the chiefs in that section. Thanks to a good reputation I got by working my ass off at the university.
education: dr. math.
money: about 96,000€ (148,396.8 US$) / year

It's a good job, nice people I am working with, got to travel 2-4 times a year to USA/Asia, 35 days paid holidays.

I can work from home about 2 weeks per month. Don't have to wear a suit or tie at home = joy.

I thought about becoming a teacher for a while, though.

Hey MRiGns..
This is very impressive..the icing on the cake..well ya lucky dog..he-he..at this point I could chance my luck at the lottery and probably have more hope at hitting it big then the route I have chosen. Lost quite a few dollars in the first marriage..and a sickness slowed me to a halt..just existing for the here and now..

Good enough..
