Know any effective ways to improve english.?

My father is a native spanish speaker and has been doing well here in the US since he moved here, excellent when compared to many other central american immigrants who really dont accomplish much. Anywho, he speaks english well and it has gotten him pretty far, although it is not the best. I give him a C+. What would you all think would be a great way to improve his grammar and english in general? I told him to join some forums online regarding some of his interests but thats a no go for him. What would you all say?

Tell him to read, no matter what it is. Newspapers, books, the back of cereal boxes, as long as it's in english, it'll do.

Improve, not learn. He knows how to read,write and speak it. Just needs to improve it and i figured if he reads and write about something that interests him over time it would improve overall.

He could take some literature classes at an adult education centre, there he can read some books and discuss with others.

The single best way to improve English is to regularly talk to native English speakers. Reading and writing is good if he specifically wants to improve his reading and writing skills, but language is primarily based on speaking and listening. In other words, he needs some English speaking friends. That's best, but if he can't find any then reading anything at all that is written in English will help.

Is he into Linux? could download bit torrent and get an English program from Pimsleur, I also think its a choice to burn it so you can here it in a dvd player as he drives to and from..just a thought, uhm, its free there too...
