| So, I'm planning on going to grad school in 2008, in Information Management, but here's my problem: I need to buff up my stats for the application. I'm looking all over for volunteer jobs, but nothing is quite working. I work full time, and need something that will look good on my grad school application, and that I can actually do while holding down my current job. I'm a pretty decent bash scripter, know some php, HTML, CSS, Linux, grep, awk, sed. I live in the Bay Area, and in case you didn't gather from my screenname, I'm a Ubuntu user. I think that sums it up. Any thoughts from the crowd? THANKS! See how well this forum holds up to its name... |

| Commentator | I don't live in the Bay Area, so I cannot give you anything off the top of my head. You might want to look at this site. It is for the Bay Area. SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA VOLUNTEER INFORMATION CENTER |

| Level 37 Bureaucrat | Why not get a volunteer job designing FOSS software? ![]() Mod on some forums etc. This is the 21st century - you don't need to actually go out of your house to volunteer Ubuntu membership would be good as well, send along an ubuntu business card with the application ![]() |

| You know, I think you may be onto something with FOSS volunteering. I have looked at it in the past, but it's always seemed either too hard (programming) or too boring (writing user specs). On the other hand, perhaps a little sacrifice (the boring part) would do me well. Anyway, back to hunting. |
