| I was crusing at 100 downhills the other day, it was raining, I only apply very minimal pressure on the gas so it keeps at constant speed of 100... then suddenly the engine somehow stalled!! ![]() It is a manual car, and it kind of lock the front wheel and it slide cross the lanes, then I don't know how I just regain control by braking steering, etc... I was able to turn the engine back on having my foot on the clutch and it had that high temperature light thing on for about 30 seconds, then the car just runs fine and I went home. Anyone know what might have been the problem? This is something I never have thought of... I mean, people were able to clutch start the engine by going downhills, so how the hell could the engine stalled cruising downhills? Last edited by Sunnz : 07-28-2007 at 10:49 AM. |

| Just been to the mechanics to do a service... They found nothing, and said it is probably caused by moisture... it was raining when the car stalled, and only once... does that make sense? But I might get a diesel car in the near future... anyone know what are the good and bad thing about diesel cars compared to petrol cars? |

| You lost me when you described losing control of the car. Before that, I would have thought that it was a vapor lock, especially since you mentioned a high temperature. EDIT The only bad things about diesels are that fuel is a bit more difficult to locate, at least here in the US, and they are noisy. I'm not sure about the cost of purchasing or maintenance, but I would expect them to be higher. Last edited by seekermeister : 08-06-2007 at 09:36 AM. |

| Well the front tires are worn out (technically illegal to drive on them), it was going downhill and heavy rain and it was wet... then the engine had a sudden stall so the wheels are lock and start to skid... At least, that's what I thought... So what is a vapor (vapour?) lock? |

| You should be able to Google it for a better definition, but it is when a certain location in the fuel system becomes overheated, and causes the fuel to vaporize preventing it from continuing to flow. Often this can be something like a fuel line that is routed too close to a hot surface, like an exhaust header, but since the problem isn't continous, I would expect something less obvious. |

| The only thing that I can think of, is that when the key is removed from the switch, it will lock the stearing wheel on many cars, but if that happened it would have been obvious. It would appear that there is a safety issue that need to be looked at. If it happened on one car, it could happen on others, and the end result may not be so cheerful. |

| rogue fisherman | i would say the mechanic is correct, probably got some moisture in the points and plugs causing it to stall, as to the lockup i think this would be a compression lockup if it was a dry road it would have just chugged to a stop. but seeing as it was wet your wheels would have broke traction and started to aquaplane causing the skid. nothing you could have done to stop it.. on a whole i would say there was nothing actually wrong with your car.cars frequently stall in wet weather. |
at times like this ,i should have gone fishing 24 hours in a day,24 stubbies in a carton, coincidence.?I saw a sign that said:-caution small children playing,so i slowed down.then i remembered i am not scared of small children | |
