Of course, it's no longer an "international airport" any longer, its a military base. I like the arches in Afghanni architecture of the period.

When this airport was built in the early 1960s, it was one of the nicest, most modern airports in that part of the world. Everything about that area was nice then. It was a time when Afghanistan was doing very well.

While I was there, you could see the traces of that time - all the trees that had been planted when everything was irrigated, what were once nice office buildings, hotels, etc. Its a reminder to me what happens to progress when things like communism and backwards religiosity have their way.
