Lol /sarcasm I guess you've never tried Linux before. When you install a Linux distro you download what's known as an ISO which you burn to a CD or DVD w/ an ISO burning program. You probably want gnome main edition,

They also have KDE. They're like two different desktops. Linux mint primarily supports gnome and you can install KDE after installed the main Linux mint. I recommend doing that to see if you like gnome or KDE better. XFCE4 is also a good choice, especially for low-end systems (though I personally like it even for modern computers).
