Geeze people dont appreciate scientific inquiry. Any information no matter how mundane is useful somehow. This sounds like something Richard Dawkins would talk about in one of his books had the study been done earlier.

It was preformed by a university. They get their money mostly from students. Public research is directly funded by the government with tax-payer money. Besides there much more useless studies have been conducted in the past.
