Richer personal information is fine, as long as it doesn't become about creating a fictional character. I find the discussions interesting when I feel like it's with real people. If it starts feeling like I'm talking to caricatures of people it won't be such fun anymore.
Some may use the richer personal content as a way to share interesting details about themselves. Others (I think most) will use it for self-promotion. I don't see how the latter does anything but get in the way. I don't care how pretty or handsome or cool you are. I'm more interested in how you think, and what you can teach me. |
