| Re: Should a gay fairy tale book be read to second graders? [quote=LordFu;89450]Again, the issue isn't the homosexuality. It's about a parent's right to choose when their children learn about anything, period. As a responsible parent, I'm not going to abdicate that decision to the state. If it were a book on Christopher Columbus, and I objected to it, I have the right to make that decision. You're missing the point in your blind state-worship.
I'm sorry LordFu, but I have to call you here. Parents have a right to say that their kids can't learn something, to a point. This book would be teaching acceptance, which needs to be learned at a young age. I'm not gay, so I'm not biased that way, nor are any of my friends gay. (It's not that I'm against that group of people but all of my friends are writers and none of them fall into that category where I live in my small town.) What you are sayinng is just like stating, "You can't read that story to my kid, there's a black person in it!" and then getting all angry. Which ever you say, it's descrimination and the world shouldn't tolarate something like that in this day and age, not should you be promotion it.
Trust me, were not missing the point your bringa across, were seeing it for what it is. |
