I gave Nexuiz a play a few weeks ago. I was impressed at how it worked and how well it did so. Only problem is that nowadays it's a bit like the first Unreal Tournament in terms of the technology.

I really don't know if free-open-source has what it takes to make today's top-of-the-range games. Isn't even Nexuiz (correct me if I'm wrong) based on the work of a commercial company (iD Software), the Quake engine?
