Welcome holihue, nice to have you here.
Many of us came over from the Ubuntu forums, so you'll find a lot of linux users.
I have one of the new Dell Ubuntu machines, an Inspiron Desktop 530 N.
Here's the specs:
PROCESSOR - IntelŪPentiumŪ dual-core processor E2140 (1MB L2,1.60GHz,800 FSB)
OPERATING SYSTEM - Ubuntu Desktop Edition version 7.04
MONITOR - 17 inch ViewSonic VA1703wb LCD Monitor
MEMORY - 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs
HARD DRIVE - 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
OPTICAL DRIVE - 48X CD-RW/ DVD Combo Drive
VIDEO CARD - 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS
SOUND CARD Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
KEYBOARD & MOUSE - Dell USB Keyboard and Dell Optical USB Mouse
I use all open source programs, so it's Firefox, Thunderbird, and OOo, for my primary needs. Any other miscellaneous programs I use, come from the repositories.
And finally, I use Bose earphones, so no desktop speakers.
Edit:
By the way, this is the standard hardware set-up from Dell on this model. The only thing I changed was the amount of RAM, from 512 meg to 1 gig.
