The only thing that I can think of, is that when the key is removed from the switch, it will lock the stearing wheel on many cars, but if that happened it would have been obvious. It would appear that there is a safety issue that need to be looked at. If it happened on one car, it could happen on others, and the end result may not be so cheerful.
