A very good question!
Norway was a poor country untill late seventies when we discovered oil.
As neighbours of Russia, we were much influenced by communism and socialism. And when Norway became one of the richest nations in the world due to the oil in the North Sea, socialism still stuck. So now we are a rich country where we have a strange combination of socialism, capitalism and a strong belief in individual right.
We believe in religious freedom, but norwegians in general is not very religious. We have a stronger belief in freedom of speech than religion.
