| Re: Wine-Doors OK Half Life:2 runs and very well too...
It looks very good as always, no 3D anomalies, level load takes a little longer than I'm used to but too bad. I did notice some frame rate stutter when in the very large environments. I will have a go at dropping the settings some to see if I can get it to run more smoothly.
I will use the test in Counter Strike Source to fine tune it. I know that under Windows I can max out the settings at 1280x1024 and still get 50 to 60 fps. This is the same hardware but the drivers are not the same and the environment is certainly not the same!?!
I have know that it's possible to run Windows games on a Linux box but getting it to work in the past has been akin to black magic. I once tried to run Battlefield:2 it was a total disaster. All of the settings at their lowest and still only 12fps. Plus you couldn't play online because the patches were not included and PunkBuster would kick you!
This is a totally different experience to all of my others when trying to get Win-Games to run under Linux. So a big thumbs up to the guys over at WineDoors for this one... |
