My biggest concern with bottled water has been the recent revelation (read that "blinding flash of the obvious") on what the empty bottles are doing to the environment. A thousand years for plastic bags to break down, never for plastic bottles.
When I travel (a lot), I drink out of fountains, and I try to use taps and ice in the hotels. We do not use plastic anything around here. As an alternative, we have an under sink water filter. We also take our own bags to the market, rather than use their paper or plastic bags.
Any bottles we end up with, go in the recycle bin. Living in the country, every Saturday, I take all of the recycle stuff into town to a recycle center run by the city.
Works good for us.
