For Virus scanners on Windows I would recommend
ClamWin. With this software I have detected trojans that other freeware virus scanners do not detect. It detects spy- and malware too.
For gods sake, don't use AVG! Free or Avast. Here is a small bite of the AVG! Free license agreement:

3. See, AVG is bad for your privacy. Use ClamWin instead. It is GPL'ed and 100% free software.
