 Re: Your feeling toward nationalism & patriotism
Here's my thing. I love my country in that I love the idea of America - land of the free, home of the brave, the Good Guys (TM). I love things like the Bill of Rights, equality, freedom, etc.
That said, the reality is so damn far from the ideal. Our government is run by idiots and psychopaths. Bush has literally been quoted saying "Stop throwing the Constitution in my face, It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!" There's the warrantless wiretapping, the torture and indefinite detention and denial of habeas corpus at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, the election fraud, the routine pissing on our rights.
I'm done with nationalism. If my government wants me to respect it, it's going to have to earn my respect.
