| Re: What will they think of us in the year 3000 ? Humanity is unstable. Point in case, world government and cooperation. We will not exist as we now exist it is simply not possible. The only reason that our species has survived this long is that, simply, we have not had the means to eradicate ourselves. We are beginning an era where we no longer have that protection.
Thus, I find that humanity in the year 3000 will exist in one of three ways:
1) Not at all
2) An Advanced Peace-Loving people who Explore all they can and thirst for knowledge
3) A violent war-like people who believe that the only way to survive is to destroy.
I will not explain these possibilities: 1) Not at All
I deem this to be the most likely outcome. Humanity will further its technology beyond its ability to responsibily use it until we reach the end result: the push of a button and the eradication of our species.
You see, 'civilized' humanity is only concernced with creation; we believe that anything we create that wasn't there before is a benefit to man... this is not true. More often than not we get caught up in the fact that we can or cannot do something before we consider whether we should do something.
Thus the only solution without addressing this problem is to create something that will destroy us or (if we're luck and avoid doomsday machines) we will continue to bastardize the world until it can no longer sustain the life we continue to force it to. 2) Peace-Loving
Humanity will eventually learn its lesson (if at all, through a tough lesson... see: George Bush III) and from that we will come to the realization that the world is too small to be ran by factions. Thus, we will combine and govern ourselves as a people in the pursuit of knowledge with responsibility. If there are ETs (and I belive that it is likely) we will eventually establish relationships with them or they will destory us. 3) War-Like
Humanity will learn another lesson. One government will eventually grow to control the species/world and will eventually establish normailty. Humanity will be a slave unto itself (See: George Bush III). If there are ETs they will come here and we will attempt to fight them. If they are weaker, we will succeed. If they are stronger, we will surrender and be subjegated.
In any event, we are barbarians with little moral reality... if they think, they will think of us as such. The question is, will they consider it a time of darkness or enlightenment.
My thoughts,
