Around about 3 is pretty good on our toaster, perhaps from 4 to 6 is to emulate camping toasters, I'll never forget the day my breakfast burst into flames

My grandparents old toaster wouldn't work on anything except 6 though, but that was an old toaster, perhaps they get worse with age and the manufacturers are just future proofing them?
