You present us with two alternatives:
1. Life is but a 'test' from god to see if you are worthy of ascending into heaven upon your death. Life is merely a means to an end.
2. Your life is all you have, therefore you should maximize it.
Why not live life for itself? Why do you feel there must be a higher goal?
