Default Re: Keeping your PC healthy

Also, it si good to re-seat (remove and reinstall) removable cards (such as video cards, network cards, etc) to prevent corrosion. When doing this, however, make sure that you have some sort fo anti-static wrist strap ,and that you are not using any type of magnetic screwdrivers.

A few other things as well...

I typically (on my Windows side...which will soon "disappear") run spyware scans and virus scans once a week using some freeware programs which I'll list below:

Freeware Spyware/Adware/Malware scanners
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Lavasoft AdAware SE Personal
Spyware Terminator

Freeware Virus scanners (NOTE: it si not a good idea to run two anti-virus programs simultaneously)
avast! Home Edition
AVG Anti-Virus

It is also a good idea to keep your cookies and browsing history and so forth clean. A good program for this is CCleaner However, I pesonally don't feel that it is safe to use the Issues feature for cleaning the Windows registry. Most registry cleaners are "iffy" at best.

One more additI personally dont' recommend simply using the Windows Firewall. si not a good idea to run a Windows system without a firewall. I have found Comodo Firewall to be a great free alternative firewall.

I could go on a bit more, but I dont wan tto turn this into some computer book...Sorry, everyone.

HOpe that this information will be helpful to some of you.

Take care.
