I was intended to open a similar kind of topic.
I started learning english at the age of 10 maybe, so it was a long learning curve, I passed my language exam when I was 17. Here the teachers put emphasise mostly on the grammer, so if you want to expand your vocab, you can start by reading books, watching movies, and writing in english on the net. At the school we learned 'oxford' english, so first it was hard to understand the movies, but I kept practicing, and nowdays I only use english subtitles, if any.

I like english very much, but my mother tongue, hungarien is of course closer to me. I like it that it's a little unic in Europe, hard to learn it, and very expressable.
I started to learn french a year ago, but lost interest, but I do plan to pick it up again. Oh, and I learned latin at high-school for a second language, but only some words and grammer remained, mainly from biology nowdays, as I study that. I would like to learn more languages too. There's a phrase that you are as many people as many language you know.
