Re: What do you beleive happens to you in the afterlife? I posted what follows in the Backyard today, I won't make a habit of doing this, but had to put a copy here:
The German (or was he Austrian?) psychologist Carl Jung's commentary on the Tibetan Book of the Dead is really interesting, far more so than the actual text of the Tibetan Book... to the Westerner, or at least to me 30 years ago!
The bottom line of that book, according to Jung, is that upon death, IF you don't recognise the small light in the distance as the ultimate truth & move towards it, THEN you experience the illusion of getting what you believe you deserve to get, after you die. The knowledge that you are actually dead leaves you in this illusory world of karmic deserts. Which from memory lasts for 48 earth days, unless you realise the truth, foregoing the illusion & join the light. (I could have the number of days slightly wrong there, for all it matters! )
After spending time in the paradise realms for all your positive actions, you then sink down into the realms of the wrathful deities, who cause you to suffer an equal amount of suffering as what you have caused in your life.
Eventually you see a male & female copulating, upon seeing this you realise that you don't have a body & you want one, upon which you are trapped by a womb & start the process of being born into another incarnation on the planet earth!
So, if this process is true, then the members of the various religions would have their own illusory process upon death, according to the strength of belief in the literal dogma.
The average Christian for example would talk to Saint Peter at the pearly gates & probably be allowed in :-) then see all the angels & thrones & characters that have been programmed into their consciousness, usually for most of their life. After which all the other deceased family members & friends & pets, would be joyously seen, & over a period of time a diminishing of joyous experience until Hell & eventually the Devil with his horns, tail & pitchfork arrives. :-)
The exact method of the Christian escape from entrapment in Hell would vary I'm sure. Perhaps there is a bar or strip joint down there, or a blue movie joint where the Christian realises that they are dead, without a real body & get trapped by a womb for another great trip to Gaia!
You know, I think that a movie featuring the after death experiences of all the different religious belief systems would be really popular... It may show that the most likely way to miss out on returning to the creative source is by believing in, or trusting your soul to anything other than yourself!
