Baseball players go into slumps often, probably 3 or 4 times per year (162 games). I doubt Mussina is done, he's been too good for too long. I once heard a pitcher say that out of 30 starts, they are feeling good during about 5 or 6 of those starts, the rest is a struggle. Hitters come out of slumps faster because they get to play everyday. I haveen't seen Mussina pitch yet this year but, he's real smart.
Is this about baseball or baseball players? Who else do you have on your team?
Edit: Players go into slumps for probably 30 to 40 games per year. I think that is a better indicator then x times per year..Some slumps are prolonged and not as often...Starting pitchers; good, experienced ones maybe 5 starts.
