i think you are right about reinventing yourself. But, don't stereotype yourself. That isn't good either. The whole thing with being goth is not being a conformist...and now many of them conform to the stereotype. And it works the same way for the emos and preps. Try to be yourself. Find what you like. Don't throw a label on it.

Though, I know what you mean about being in the good girl mold. But you don't want to all of a sudden start doing "bad" or "dangerous" things. And don't worry about people calling you "Emowannabee" or anything thing. It sucks to be made fun of or picked on yes. But everybody has a different opinion on what's hardcore and whats fake. So no matter what you do someone will think your fake. Though for me, I never had a problem with the emo's or goths, or preps or any other clique at my school. I was friends with all sorts of groups and I still am today. I am a person with many interest. I listen to hardcore metal, soft rock, country, rap, classical, and other styles. I dress how I feel sometimes I dress up and sometimes I dress down.
So be yourself and be real. People would rather hang with someone who does what they like than tries to fit in. You won't be liked by everyone but you wont be hated by everyone either.
lol..and for the parents...just always be respectful and decent.

good luck with high school!
How very un-you of you.
When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire.
