Besides, making a completely Flash-based website is a bad idea. First, there are people with older computers, and they don't run Flash very nicely. Second, some people don't have Flash (though this is becoming less true every month). Third, search engines are going to love all the no-text pages you set up.
If you still want the graphics of Flash, I recommend looking into the new Silverlight, or the competitor whose name I cannot remember.

For the first two reasons, i'll state what you said - that's not really an excuse anymore. Most of the people do have flash nowadays. As, for the search engine problem, well, - there is going to be only one page. And we only need the site address to show up in the search results. An i don't think community information as such will be required for search.
I do not need Flash only because of the graphics. And mind you, graphics in Flash are pretty convenient and i think they greatly reduce the loading time and size, besides giving greater flexibility and manipulation power. I also need it because, we'll basically be dealing with Avatars 'in motion'. It's going to be a coordinate based system. Flash interacting with PHP for storing and retrieving data.
It's worth giving a try.
