I wouldn't Microsoft has a cult, but it does have a strong base of supporters amongst developers and administrators. I call it "IT Stockholm Syndrome" - plenty of people in IT have learnt to rationalise supporting Microsoft and ignore the downsides.

Supporting MS is low-risk (everybody does it, so you aren't held responsible if it doesn't work out), easier (less demanding), and has guaranteed rewards (big market for jobs and services). Using non-Microsoft stuff in Microsoft-dominated environments is risky, more work, and puts you in opposition to the Microsoft supporters. Basically, cooperation is rewarded, dissent is punished
