Here in France it's round €1.15 for 1l of diesel and €1.35-1.40 for the premium thingy. 80% tax. Major tax income.
(regular tax is 19.6 %, some items are 5.5%).
At some point there was a "floating tax rate" applied. When barrel prices would go up, tax % would go down to level out the actual liter price. It's been stopped now. Looks like when barrel price goes up, gas price goes up right away, and does not go down as quickly as world market prices...
Some economists here foresee that when a barrel will hit the €400 mark, we'll start considering environmental issues
