Default Re: Moving out on your own

Here's a little horror story for one to think about, it's my life. Due to my lack of education and lack of job skills I was forced out on my own at the age of 20. Without a job & income, I ended up on Income Assistance (welfare). $500 a month, the cheapest apartment I could find was $450/mo. I was living on $50 for food per month with very little help from family and friends. I made it for 6 months until I was able to move down the hall and get a bigger place for $400. I know, sounds odd but it's how the dumb property manager worked. Anyways, for 14 months I survived on $50-75/mo for food and barely had a phone. Luckily my mom let me take my parent's phone line so I had a 20 year credit history on it so I was able to let it climb to $400 without being disconnected. I never made long distance calls so I survived ... barely. I had some Canada Savings bonds and a little college money I was allowed to use since I never went to college. That helped, but it's really tough.

Should you choose to move on your own or if you're forced out... make sure you've got an income cause welfare doesn't pay you enough. If you can find a roommate, even better, split the bills. Have a plan NOW before it's too late. I learned the hard way and I'm still on welfare after 10 years and unable to hold down a job due to my learning disabilities & 3 car accidents.
