I would define a luxury as something that is not a necessity, and is hard to obtain for the average person.

Despite me and my girlfriend both earning considerably more than the average salary, I wouldn't say we live in luxury. I'd say we are merely comfortable, we eat out often, and don't think twice about going to the movies, or buying new clothes. But London is so expensive we share a place with another couple!!!
